Focusing

You have a vague feeling that something is wrong, but you don't know what, or you feel something in your body but you can't figure out where it comes from. You cannot reach it yet, it is still unconscious.

Focusing is a simple technique that teaches you how to see and experience how a personal problem and question are tangible in your body, how mind and body work together. It is about what you do internally.

With guidance, your thinking and analysis are stopped for a moment to go to the feeling. Your attention must be in your body because you can sense the feeling of "it is right" or "it fits." Through specific steps you are guided according to your feelings and that leads to an inner change (called shift). Then you will experience the situation differently. Recognizing all that you can experience in yourself gives new energy, which you can integrate into your daily existence. That way you become more and more who you really are.

The technique was invented by Eugene T. Gendlin.
